St. Bede was born in 672 or 673 in the town of Monkton in Jarrow, Northumbria, England. He died in 735 and was canonized and named a doctor of the Church in 1899. St. Bede was a monk of the Monastery of St. Paul at Monkwearmouth-Jarrow. He wrote scriptural commentaries and history; he is best known for his Ecclesiastical History of the English People.
