---------------------

Maximus the Confessor was a 7th-century monk, theologian, and defender of orthodox Christian doctrine. He opposed the heresy of Monothelitism, which denied Christ’s full human will, firmly teaching that Christ possesses both a human and divine will. For his steadfast defense of the faith, he suffered persecution, including exile and mutilation. Despite this, he remained devoted to truth and unity in the Church. His writings deeply influenced Christian theology, especially on the nature of Christ and the spiritual life. He is honored as a "Confessor" for his courageous witness to the faith.
