According to Scripture and Tradition, the archangels are one of the nine choirs of angels serving God, and they usually are entrusted with special missions. In the Book of Revelation, the Archangel Michael leads the heavenly host in battle against the devil and his angels. In Hebrew, the name Michael means “Who is like God?” Tradition has it that when St. Michael spoke his own name, Satan fell from heaven. St. Michael thus is known as a great protector against evil.
